Improving congenital heart disease imaging using 3d whole-heart dual-phase MRI

چکیده
Introduction A single-phase 3d steady-state-free precession whole heart approach with respiratory navigator gating and ECG triggering (3d SSFP) is now frequently used for diagnostic imaging in children with congenital heart disease (CHD). However, certain cardiac structures may be better assessed during the systolic and others in the diastolic rest period. Therefore, a previously described dual phase 3d-SSFP whole heart sequence may offer clinical benefit in these patients. (Uribe et al 2008)

3D Whole Heart Imaging for Congenital Heart Disease
Three-dimensional (3D) whole heart techniques form a cornerstone in cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging of congenital heart disease (CHD). It offers significant advantages over other CHD imaging modalities and techniques: no ionizing radiation; ability to be run free-breathing; ECG-gated dual-phase imaging for accurate measurements and tissue properties estimation; and higher signal-to-no...
متن کاملWhole heart self-navigated 3D radial MRI for the creation of virtual 3D models in congenital heart disease
Background Three-dimensional (3D) virtual models are valuable tools that may help to better understand complex cardiovascular anatomy and facilitate surgical planning in patients with congenital heart disease (CHD). Although computed tomography (CT) images are used most commonly to create these models [1,2], Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) may be an attractive alternative, since it offers supe...
متن کاملSelf-navigated free-breathing isotropic 3D whole heart MRI for the characterization of complex cardiac anatomy in patients with congenital heart malformations
Background Cardiac and vascular anatomy of patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) is often complex and accurate evaluation mandates MR image acquisition in several non-standard planes. This requires significant patient involvement while multiple additional breath-holds are required. For these reasons, the utility of self navigated isotropic 3D-free-breathing whole-heart MRI (SN-3D) was as...
متن کاملComparison of 4D flow and 2D PC MRI blood flow quantification in children and young adults with congenital heart disease
Background Echocardiography (echo) is the primary imaging modality for assessment of aortic and pulmonary blood flow velocities. 2D phase contrast (PC) MRI provides better access to all segments of the aortic and pulmonary system and is considered the standard for evaluating blood flow. Both techniques are limited by velocity analysis in 2D planes and by single-direction velocity measurement wh...
متن کاملNoninvasive evaluation of 3D hemodynamics in a complex case of single ventricle physiology.
We report the comprehensive evaluation of the complex hemodynamics in a rare case of a pediatric patient after repair of congenital heart disease with multiple abnormalities including hypoplastic left heart, double outlet right ventricle, transposition of great arteries, ventricular septal defect, aortic coarctation, and total cavopulmonary connection. Based on a single measurement, whole-heart...
